Mothers

Mother's Day. I love being honored for having children. I love honoring my mother. I haven't been able to honor my mother publicly in a long time. She passed away 8 years ago. I'm glad to have this outlet to share a little bit about what my Mom was to me.
Jeannie LaVona Widdison Felshaw. She thought that name was too long so she didn't give any of her girls middle names. She was a professional seamstress, her love of all things stitchery went deep. When I was a girl she made all of my clothes (back when it was actually cheaper to make them than just buy them). She made everything from our shirts and pants to our hats and bathing suits. She was amazing. She made my prom dresses, my friend's prom dresses, my wedding dress, my friend's wedding dresses...she did it all!
She was sick for most of my life. She was in and out of the hospital a lot. I'm not sure what impact that had on me as I feel my childhood was a good one. When she finally passed away, we all felt sad, for sure, but a bit of relief as well. She wasn't in pain anymore. She wasn't suffering anymore. She was in heaven working, most likely with children in some capacity. We joke as a family that she is now the Nursery Leader in Heaven.
She died about 6 mos before I got pregnant with Rylee. As soon as I knew I was pregnant, I knew she was a girl. My mother wanted me to have a girl sooooo bad and I guess she took charge of the matter herself. I am convinced that she had everything to do with Rylee coming when she did and I am grateful.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom...I love you!
