It WORKED!!

This past year for Christmas my brilliant idea was to have Santa bring our kids only one thing. BOARD GAMES! Well I guess they didn't get just ONE thing because he brought them SEVERAL games! They did get things from each other, us and grandparents but Santa brought them nothing else. It was fun to help Santa choose classic games like Sorry, Trouble, Battleship, Twister and Hungry, Hungry, Hippos...but some new fun ones like Cadoo, Life-Twists and Turns, and Hulabaloo! We also started playing some dice games we learned from my sister like Farckle!

The whole point to the "only games" Christmas was to give the kids something to do and something to do TOGETHER on Sunday, the Sabbath Day. We've always had rules for keeping the Sabbath Day holy but they get bent often. Like, they can only watch church videos on TV or play educational games on the computer...but then what IS an educational game?? Pikmin because you have to solve puzzles? or Pokemon cuz you're really only fighting the BAD GUYS?! Mitch even tried to get us to let him play World of Warcraft by saying that on Sunday it's called World of Arts and Crafts! HA! We didn't fall for that one!

Last night we played Apples to Apples, Connect 4 (tournament style), Hulabaloo, Operation, and Farckle. It was so fun! I'm so glad Santa thought to help us with our Sabbath Day dilemma. Thanks Santa!

I'm sorry there are no pics of us playing them as I was having too much fun playing with my family to even care to get the camera out!

What a great idea. I have to steal that one. But, how do I get my husband not to watch TV on Sunday???
I agree with what Chris said. I would love to use that idea. We already do some of that, but I love having NO t.v., I've got to work on the man of the house, though.

I had to beg a little - also a bit of guilt trip worked..."you're not being an example to the kids" or "you need to support me more" or "as the priesthood holder in this house..."

Love this! We are big board game players in this house. In fact, I think we need to play something for family home evening...
