Father's Day
My Dad came for a visit and was here in AZ for Father's Day. It was so nice to have him here. Not just because he's my Dad and we love him, but because he is so helpful with the kids. I made him stay longer than he planned so he could help with my kids during my last session of swimming lessons. I say I "made" him but he stayed willingly and my kids were so happy to stay home and be tickled by Crapaw. He's the best snuggly teddy bear. I'm so grateful for all he has done for our family. We had so much fun while he was here. He spent most of his childhood in Mesa, AZ so I have learned of a ton of extended family I have right here in the east valley! He's huge into Family History and has taught me so much of the history of my family. He's called Crapaw. You may think that's not a nice name to call him but he loves it. His oldest grandchild (who just finished her 1st year at BYU) couldn't say her "g" sounds as a baby so when she attempted to say Grandpa, it came out Crapaw. Somehow she chose the C sound for him and the D sound for Grandma...her name came out Damma. So little Whitney had a dirty mouth...Crapaw and Damma. HA! They both thought those names were priceless so they stuck!
Grandpa J or G-pa to my kids. Scott's Dad is a ROCK in our family. He is a very business-like man with his own kids and their spouses - but you get that man anywhere near a grandchild and he melts into a bowl of jelly. Singing silly, made-up-on-the-spot songs to them and giving each grandchild a silly nick name. Mitchell ended up being "Mitchell, Mitchell, Mitchell-man eating in the garbage can" - so funny!
We love G-pa and his example of service and rightousness. He has served faithfully in the church and in his community. He's 71 years old (on Tuesday, June 17th - HAPPY BIRTHDAY too!) and is still running every morning. He has to in order to keep up with G-ma!
Scott - my man! The father of my children. He makes me smile everyday when I see him with our kids. He loves to wrestle with them and teach them all the things he knows. He knows a whole lot so my kids get smarter everyday. He has passed on his sense of humor and his thirst for knowledge. I love to catch him and the kids watching some educational show on the Discovery Channel or Science Channel. I'm not sure they realize it's educational because their Dad will always comment on how cool it is and they want to see why.
I'm thankful for all the Dad's in my life. I'm also grateful for the Dad's in my kid's lives. Those Dad's of their friends who are good examples to them. Those Dad's that teach my kids. Those Dad's that serve my kids and guide them in their quest for their own testimony of Jesus Christ. Those Dad's that are examples to me and my kids everyday. I'm grateful for them all.
Happy Father's Day
