Our Garden that was our Spring Break

Scott took off work the second week of our spring break and this is what we did. We have a nice sized side area on the east side of our house. No one will ever really see it except for anyone doing dishes (ME) at the kitchen sink. So we thought it would be a great place for a garden box. We centered it right on that kitchen window so whoever (ME) was doing the dishes would have something nice to look at.

We borrowed a Bobcat from our good friend Micah Slade (thanks again Micah!) so we could get some gravel back to the far reaches of the corner before we built the box. It was sooooooo nice not having to shovel and wheelbarrow the gravel! Here are some shots of Scott delicately maneuvering the bobcat between our 2 ACs and the wall. It was a bit nerve-racking but Scott did an amazing job! Not once did he even touch the ACs or wall!

He had to keep the bucket up at its highest to clear the wall.
Can you see how close it was? Just inches on either side!
Our fun dirt mountain was greatly diminished with this project, but there is still enough for the kids to have fun!
Scott worked so hard I thought he deserved a good BLT and Route 44 from Sonic for lunch
Here's the finished box ready for gravel to be spread around it and soil to be put in it
The kids had a blast with the bobcat. Carson played on it for hours when it was off.
They each got many rides with Dad. Rylee wouldn't even get out of her jammies she was so excited Mitch actually got to drive the bobcat while Mom was gone. Everyone got rides in the bucket
We put in 6 strawberry plants, one hibiscus flower plant, 2 tomato plants, 1 green pepper, 1 red pepper, several carrots and peas. We even planted a tiny flower plant Carson got from his Primary teachers.
Rylee's favorites are the strawberries.

Here's a pic of the garden as of today (April 14th). If you look closly you can see red strawberries!! Eek! I'm so excited!Pretty hibiscus flowers...carrots in front, peas in back, tomatos and peppers in far upper corner.

Wow, that's a perfect spot for it. Kudos for even attempting a garden. Tony keeps talking about starting one, but he's got so many other projects, that it may never happen. Good luck!

A Huge Sigh of Relief!

After 16 years working for Intel Corporation without fear, Scott was finally a wee bit worried when the latest round of lay-offs was announced. Sometimes they eliminate the ones who've been there longer. Sometimes they get rid of the new guys. Here in Arizona - Scott was both. He's been with Intel for 16 years but was one of the newbies at this site. This was the first time we felt nervous. Intel announced they would be eliminating about 10% from each of their sites world-wide. That meant 300-400 jobs lost here in AZ. They announced this MONTHS ago. They kept putting off the final date to let us know if we had a job or not. They kept us hanging, hoping, wishing, PRAYING, wondering... Until tonight - Scott's job is SAFE. He will keep his job. HALLELUJAH!! In an effort to avoid being jobless, homeless and faithless, Scott decided to contact his former boss (the good one, Larry) to see if there were any options back in Albuquerque, NM (or Rio Rancho which is where...

15 Years - that's right...you heard me!

2 dozen roses and a Sonic drink! What more could this girl ask for? How 'bout this? A new wedding band! (Scott wants it to be called an Anniversary band) I've always loved my original ring. Scott picked it out himself with only one suggestion from me...I like baguettes. He did a great job. As I have gotten older though, I have had a new desire. A ring that will not cause bodily injury. I can't tell you how many times I have innocently swiped my hand and a poor, unsuspecting soul (usually one of my kids) gets a scratch right up their face! Carson won't give me a fist bump because he's scared of the ring. And I only had to hint to Scott ONE time and it was quite a while ago!! I'm a simple gal. I don't wear jewelry often. It took me YEARS to get use to my wedding ring and finally not take it off every night. This new band is PERFECT! Simple yet so pretty. Thank you my dear, dear Scotty. This 15 years has been so fun! Let's do it again! Aw...what the heck!...
